There is a tradition in any International Cricket Council (ICC) event that teams have to wear the name of the host country of the tournament on their jerseys. During the T20 World Cup 2021, the BCCI was the host of the tournament, although the tournament took place in the UAE, and even then every team’s jersey had the name ‘India’ written on it along with the tournament logo. Now, some reports are coming before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, in which it is being said that the Indian team may remove the name of Pakistan from its jersey this time. Now ICC has reacted to these reports.
According to a sports report, an ICC official said, “It is the responsibility of every team to put the tournament logo on their jersey. It is mandatory for all teams to follow this rule.” ICC also said that if the Champions Trophy logo is not found along with Pakistan’s name on the Indian team’s kit, then strict action can be taken against it. During the Asia Cup 2023, the Indian team had worn the jersey without Pakistan’s name written on it, and now it will be interesting to see whether the same happens this time too.
According to ICC rules, teams are required to wear the name of the host country on their jerseys, regardless of where the match takes place. In the case of India, the same happened in the 2021 tournament, when the tournament was held in UAE, but the host was the Indian board. The IANS report states that BCCI does not want Pakistan’s name written on its team’s jersey, although the Pakistan Cricket Board has denied receiving any such information. Till now no official statement has come from BCCI and PCB in this regard.
