The NCPA Mumbai Dance Season is back for its 6th edition, running from January 9th to February 2nd, 2025. This year’s festival promises to be bigger and better, with over 32 events and more than 100 artists showcasing India’s rich dance heritage. Spread across multiple locations in Mumbai, including Colaba, Santa Cruz, Andheri, Goregaon, Dadar, and even extending to Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Dahisar, the festival aims to bring the vibrancy of Indian dance to every corner of the city.
A grand opening
The season kicks off on January 9th, 2025, with a tribute to Maharashtra’s folk heritage. Curated by Nivedita Mukherjee (Odissi) and Manisha Jeet (Kathak), the inaugural event will feature performances by troupes from Satara, Vidarbha, Konkan, and Vasai. Audiences can look forward to captivating renditions of traditional dances such as Naman, Waghya Murali, Koli, and Dhangar. The opening night will also include Mangala Gaur, a celebration of swift dances and engaging games, setting the stage for an exciting cultural journey.
The grand finale
The festival concludes on February 2nd, 2025, with a spectacular showcase of India’s classical dance traditions. Curated by Malati Agneeswaran and Jayashree Rajagopal, the closing event will highlight the perfect blend of heritage and innovation. Renowned dancers and musicians will come together for collaborative performances that combine classical rigor with contemporary creativity, ensuring a breathtaking end to the season.
