Mumbai: Maharashtra’s chief minster Devendra Fadnavis expressed contentment over extradition of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks mastermind Tahawwur Rana and called it a satisfactory moment. He expressed gratitude to prime minister Narendra Modi on behalf of Mumbaikars who lost their loved ones in the attacks.

A day after Rana’s extradition from the United States, CM Fadnavis expressed gratitude to PM Modi for bringing back the key conspirator of the 2008 attacks after punishing Ajmal Kasab. He called it a satisfactory event for everyone as the Indian government’s efforts to bring back the conspirator succeeded.

“I am very happy that the terrorist, especially the one who conspired the attack, has been brought back to India and will face our judicial system. I believe that there was an emotional baggage on us that we hanged Kasab till death but the conspirator was still at loose. Now that he is in our custody, I want to thank PM Modi, specially on behalf of the Mumbaikars who have lost their loved ones in the attack,” said Fadnavis.

While there is uncertainty about whether NIA will bring Rana to Mumbai for investigation, the CM said that the state government and the state’s police will help NIA in every manner.

“Although NIA will decide which all places they need to take him to, Maharashtra government and Mumbai police will support the agency in every way. If we need any additional information, we will take help from NIA. We will follow the decisions of Indian government, home ministry and NIA,” he added.

Fadnavis also took a dig against the Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) calling their statements foolish. He said that the Congress’ earlier statements alleging the attacks to be a conspiracy by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh were proved to be false allegations. Similarly, UBT’s allegation that Rana’s extradition is a political stunt to win Bihar elections is foolish.

“With the help of the central government, we had recorded David Headley’s statement to prove that the attack was Pakistan’s conspiracy and through that, we were able to punish Kasab. These allegations are foolish and that has been proved by the Indian judiciary,” Fadnavis added.
