Mumbai – Taking a unique initiative towards tree conservation, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on anyone who puts an advertisement board or lighting on trees with open branches.

If any person, organization or business establishment harms it using a tree for advertising or lighting, then it will be fined Rs 10,000 by NMMC.

A recently conducted survey in Navi Mumbai found that the trees are suffering heavy damage due to hanging boards on the trunk of trees and illuminating them with electric lights.

Taking cognizance of the matter, the NMMC Tree Authority passed a resolution on January 27 and decided to impose a fine of Rs 10,000. The responsibility of taking action against those who violate the rules will be of the Assistant Commissioner of the Tree Authority Department.

If a flower or flower breaks from the trunk of a tree, the tree becomes weak and can also become diseased. Additionally, illuminating trees with electric bulbs disrupts the natural ecosystem and is harmful to birds and insects.

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has appealed to the residents, advertising agencies and traders of Navi Mumbai to cooperate in the initiative to maintain the greenery of the city and protect trees.
