Chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced the Test team and the new captain for the tour of England at a press conference held in Mumbai on 24 May (Saturday). Shubman Gill has become captain, while wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been made the vice -captain of the team.

Gill said, “The responsibility I have got is a big responsibility.” In the video shared by the BCCI, Gill said, ‘When a child starts playing cricket, his dream has to play for India. Playing Test cricket is my dream, not just for India, but it is my dream to play for a long time. It is a matter of great respect for me to get this opportunity and as you said, it is also a big responsibility.
