Shubman Gill has replaced Rohit Sharma, who recently said goodbye to Test cricket. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced the Test team and the new captain for the tour of England at a press conference held in Mumbai on 24 May (Saturday). Shubman Gill has become captain, while wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been made the vice -captain of the team.

Gill said, “The responsibility I have got is a big responsibility.” In the video shared by the BCCI, Gill said, ‘When a child starts playing cricket, his dream has to play for India. Playing Test cricket is my dream, not just for India, but it is my dream to play for a long time. It is a matter of great respect for me to get this opportunity and as you said, it is also a big responsibility.
