News India Live, Digital Desk: BJP leader Amit Malviya strongly attacked the Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi. Opposition leaders came under criticism for their claims about ‘Operation Sindoor’. Operation Sindoor was an accurate attack by the Indian Army and the Air Force on terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir.
Rahul Gandhi reminded of ‘Operation Brastax’
In a post on social media platforms, ‘X’ Malaviya talked about ‘Operation Brassstax’ which was the biggest military exercise ever done by India. He reminded Gandhi how this military exercise was “derailed not from strategy but with political weakness”, the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and the Congress government of that time directly targeting the government.
Malaviya explained how Sundarji of General, who was one of the most visionary military leaders in India, started Operation Brassstax in 1986-87. It was a huge four-step military exercise near the Rajasthan-Pakistan border. The purpose of this practice was to test mobile war, agility and mechanization and included around 500,000 soldiers.
Malaviya said that this practice was not a secret and Pakistan was given complete information about it. This message was also given to the neighboring country at the SAARC conference in Bangalore and the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi himself assured Pakistan Prime Minister Junejo that it is “just a practice”. But despite the assurance, Pakistan crossed the Sutlej River and sent an army to the Indian Punjab border and the tension on the border increased.
This information was shared in 1991 before the formal agreement to share information about military activities with Pakistan at the time of war or peace, the Congress -backed government was at that time, and was later approved during the Congress rule in 1994.
Malaviya said that on 22 January 1987, Pakistan had crossed the important military border. Meanwhile, the Khalistanis announced support to the separatist movement, which increased the possibility of internal disturbance. India was suddenly shocked and finally managed to deploy the army on the border on 23 January. However, Malaviya said that Rajiv Gandhi withdrew his steps a day later. The Congress leader allegedly announced that there would be no attack and the case would be settled in a diplomatic manner. The BJP leader has questioned this sudden reversal.
He also responded to this. He posted that Rajiv Gandhi chose the option of diplomacy because Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak called him at the request of Zia-ul-Haq of Pakistan. The BJP said that Rajiv Gandhi was eager to maintain his international image as a “symbol of peace” and hence he decided to quickly recall the soldiers. Malaviya said that he called the soldiers from the border without any retaliation from Pakistan. The BJP claimed that the Congress had also withdrawn military action under pressure from the US, Britain and other major powers.
Rajiv Gandhi accused General Sundarji: Malaviya
The BJP leader said that Rajiv Gandhi convicted General Sundarji and Minister of State for Defense Arun Singh instead of taking responsibility for his act. The Prime Minister allegedly claimed that he was “kept in darkness” about the activities of the army.
After stopping the military movement along the border, Rajiv invited Pakistan leader General Zia-ul-Haq to watch the cricket match as a goodwill. He then went to Pakistan and signed the agreement on 31 December 1988 with Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto on the prohibition of attacks on nuclear installations and facilities.
The nuclear agreement came into force on January 1, 1991 and under this, both countries are required to exchange annual lists of nuclear installations and facilities to promote transparency and stop sudden attacks on nuclear assets. The move effectively highlighted India’s nuclear capabilities. Malaviya termed this act as “appeasement”. He also reminded Rahul Gandhi that his grandmother Indira Gandhi had offered to share India’s nuclear technology with Pakistan in 1974.
Malaviya advised Rahul Gandhi to reconsider how his family repeatedly compromised India’s strategic interests-for diplomacy under the guise of surrender before giving lectures on military campaigns such as Operation Sindoor. He told him that it was the Congress government who honored former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in 1995 for an international understanding of the Jawaharlal Nehru Award.
