In a shocking case of negligence by municipal workers in Bareilly district’s Baradari police station area, a trolley full of sewer silt was dumped on a vegetable vendor sleeping under the shade of a tree near the Satipur crossroads, opposite a graveyard. The man, identified as 45-year-old Sunil Kumar Prajapati, died due to suffocation.

Sunil’s father, Girwar Singh Prajapati, stated that his son was resting under a tree near Kakraiya graveyard in the afternoon when municipal contractor Naeem Shastri and his sanitation workers dumped silt (drain waste) from a trolley without checking the area. Sunil was not visible due to the bushes around him. The family alleges that the spot was not an authorised dumping site.

With the help of locals, Sunil was pulled out from the debris and taken to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The tragic incident has left the family devastated, as Sunil was the sole breadwinner. Police arrived at the scene upon receiving information and began investigations. Based on Sunil’s father’s complaint, Baradari police have registered a case against the contractor. Station House Officer Dhananjay Pandey stated that further action will be taken after the post-mortem report.

Municipal Commissioner Sanjeev Kumar Maurya said that, at first glance, the incident appears to be a case of negligence, as the dumping site was not authorised. He assured that a departmental inquiry would be conducted and strict action taken against those responsible.

Sunil’s family has also alleged that the workers and contractor deliberately dumped the waste on him, claiming it was not an accident but a conspiracy. Police are investigating all angles.

The body has been sent for post-mortem, and officials say the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the report is received, guiding further legal proceedings.

Sunil Kumar Prajapati supported his family by selling vegetables. His sudden death has left them in shock. When he did not return to his vegetable stall in the morning, his family grew worried, and upon learning of the tragedy, they were left shattered. The incident has raised serious questions about the municipal corporation’s functioning and the negligence of its employees.
