Indian Football: AIFF urge to speed up the expansion of I-League and IWL

News India Live, Digital Desk: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has been asked to avoid taking decisions on the inclusion of new teams in the I-League and the Indian Women’s League until its constitution is finalized. Also, he should also avoid the temptation to take any decision before taking approval from his executive committee.

The executive committee member Valanka Alemao through a letter has apprised AIFF Chairman Kalyan Choubey about the examples of the direct entry of teams, where the decisions were already taken and later placed before the Executive Committee for approval.

He wrote, “The last League Committee met on January 31, 2025. The direct entry into the I-League/IWL was on his agenda, but he decided that ‘pre-essences for direct entry into the league would be discussed in the upcoming meetings’. Now this thing was never told to EC members. “

“During the hearing in the Supreme Court, very serious arguments have been made by various institutions, which has demanded a league with promotion/demarcation structure on the basis of sports merit.

“Therefore, it would be prudent to wait for the new constitution given by the Supreme Court to us before taking forward this discussion. But this idea of direct entry has been kept for approval without circulating the draft.”

The draft of the constitution prepared by former Judge L Nageswara Rao has already been presented in the Supreme Court, which has also completed the process of listening to the arguments of all the stakeholders of Indian football and is preparing to pronounce its verdict when the proceedings start after the summer holiday on 14 July.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has given AIFF Do not take any major decision or Instructed not to interact on contract expansion with your marketing partners.

Valanka also reminded Choubey that being the highest decision -making organization, the Executive Committee has the right to conduct, guide and conduct general management and direction to fulfill the objectives of the Federation.

The Executive Committee has also been authorized to monitor and ensure the relevant roles, responsibilities and execution of General Secretary and Standing Committees and to ensure distribution and balance of rights, so that no person gets unrestricted powers.

But several decisions have been taken in the past, including the decision to dismiss the General Secretary in November 2023 and to replace the personnel in disciplinary and appeal committees in March 2025, which has not been followed by the protocol.

The AIFF has been dragged into the Delhi High Court in the ‘wrong dismissal’ case of its general secretary, where the case is still under consideration, while Valanka first New appointments in judicial bodies But they raised questions.

He said, “Unfortunately, as I have told you before, the decisions are already taken and then the approval of the Executive Committee is sought, which creates confusion and controversy.”

Question on referee’s decision

The chairman of the Women’s Football Committee, Valnka objected to the demonstration of the referrals who performed poorly in the second division i-League from the top level Indian Super League.

Earlier, many clubs raised the case of suspected decisions of the referee in the I-League before the AIFF.

“The Referee Committee met on 16 January 2025. It was decided that the final-placed match officer in the ISL Referee and Assistant Referee Merit Table will be demolished in the i-League at the end of the season and will not be eligible for any ISL appointment as referee or ARS.

“The demise of match officials can be postponed by the end of the session. In the current season, the lowest rankings of ISL’s mid-season merit table can be sent to the I-League Games. At the conclusion of the session, their performance will be investigated once again.”

“How can the Referee Committee think about taking such a decision? By demolishing such referee and supporting referee in the i-League, are we not filling the I-League’s referee panel with a poor referee?”, Valanka expressed surprise.

“Once again, the members of the Election Commission have no idea about such inappropriate steps that will give rise to disputes when approved.”

In addition to these examples, Valanka said that many other decisions were taken without discussion or brought before the Executive Committee, even on 7 April, while the previous Executive Committee meeting was held on 6 April after the conclusion of the I-League.

“We cannot take the risk of violating our own laws and regulations. Is.”
