Mumbai: The Gadchiroli Police and CRPF on Tuesday apprehended five Maoists who were allegedly preparing to carry out destructive activities. The Maharashtra government had announced a total reward of Rs 36 lakh on all the five Maoists.

The police have also seized seven firearms from the arrested Maoists. Due to the effective operation of Gadchiroli Police Force, Gadchiroli Police Force has succeeded in arresting a total of 103 Maoists since January 2022.

Those arrested have been identified as Chhattisgarh residents Ungi Mangru Hoyam alias Sumli (28), Pallavi Kesa Midium alias Bundy (19 ) and Deve Kosa Podiyam alias Sabita (19). As there is no concrete evidence regarding the age of the other two Maoists, they have been produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and further action has been taken, police said.

According to Superintendent of Police, Gadchiroli, Neelotpal, Gadchiroli police force and CRPF detained five Maoists who were actively involved in many violent activities against the security forces on Tuesday and arrested three of them.

On the basis of confidential information, police and CRPF team was dispatched to the Binagunda village in Abuzmad and the police team managed to apprehend five Maoists along with their weapons, while other Maoists managed to escape from the place by taking advantage of the village and forest area.

Later, the detained Maoists were brought to Police Headquarters Gadchiroli for further investigation. “During further investigation, it has come to light that all five accused are active Maoists and had entered the Binagunda forest area with the intention of causing casualties. One SLR rifle, one .303 rifle, three single shot rifle, two guns, three walkie talkies and other materials have been seized from the arrested Maoists.”
