New Delhi: The US has announced strict action against Indian travel agencies that help in illegal immigration in the US. The US embassy said on Monday that visa ban on owners and employees of a travel agency has been banned, which plays a major role in facilitating illegal immigration.
The US embassy said in a statement that “visa restrictions have been imposed against owners, employees and senior officials of travel agencies that deliberately assist in illegal entry into the United States.” Our Consulate Section and Diplomatic Security Service are constantly working to identify and prosecute those who assist in illegal immigration, human trafficking and other illegal activities. We will continue to impose visa ban on suspected travel agencies to disrupt the smuggling network. Our immigration policy aims to give information about the dangers of illegal immigration in the United States and to make those who violate our laws accountable. The statement further stated that “the implementation of US immigration laws and policies is important for the rule of law and the safety of Americans.” Visa control policies are of global nature and they can also apply to individuals who qualify for the visa discount program.
The United States regularly sends illegal immigrants back to their home countries. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar had told in Parliament in February that since 2009, 15,756 illegal Indian immigrants have been sent back to India from America. More than 500 Indian migrants were deported every year from 2009 to 2025. Between 2016 and 2020, the figure increased to 1,000.
The US warned on Saturday, 17 May that those who would remain in the country even after the end of the visa period would be deported and the re -entry into the US would be banned permanently. Two days after this warning was released, strict action has been taken against suspected travel agencies in the US.
