Mumbai: Residents of the city have been experiencing hot and humid weather for the past few days. The India Meteorological Department has predicted rainfall in the dream city and residents will likely get respite from the scorching heat. Rainfall is predicted in these regions of Maharashtra
The IMD has issued a warning for widespread rainfall activity in the state from May 19 to 25, with Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. The Konkan region includes Mumbai and its metropolitan regions. On Sunday, Mumbai’s Santacruz observatory recorded maximum and minimum temperatures of 34.2 degrees Celsius and 26.6 degrees Celsius, with cloudy skies and humid weather. The city is likely to experience thundershowers on Monday with gusty winds.
An orange alert has been issued by IMD
The weather department said that moderate to heavy rainfall is likely to occur in numerous regions of Maharashtra and issued an orange alert in areas including Nashik, Pune, Ahilyanagar, Kolhapur, and Satara districts of Maharashtra. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also predicted in Ratnagiri and it will be accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
Why is Mumbai experiencing pre-monsoon rainfall?
Mumbai is experiencing pre-monsoon rainfall because of a combination of weather systems and geographical factors. Westerly winds, combined with the development of a trough (a low-pressure region) and the impact of an anticyclone (a high-pressure region) in the Arabian Sea, are transporting moisture-rich air to Mumbai, causing the early precipitation.
