Indore’s Ahilya Memorial: State Cabinet To Get Detailed Presentation; Aim To Complete First Phase Costing ₹40 Crore Before Simhastha | FPJ

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): On Tuesday, the Madhya Pradesh cabinet will receive a detailed presentation on the under construction Ahilya Memorial at the site of the old RTO building.

The proposal, led by the Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Memorial Trust under former Lok Sabha Speaker and trust chairperson Sumitra Mahajan, outlines the project’s scope and funding model.

Mahajan emphasised that the memorial should set a national benchmark and expressed hope that state government collaboration will help complete Phase I—budgeted at Rs 40 crore—before the forthcoming Simhastha. She confirmed that funds are being mobilised from Indore’s citizens and welcomed governmental participation to expedite work.

Trust secretary Ashok Daga noted that the state has already allocated three acres for the memorial. A comprehensive plan, crafted with leading architects and historians, estimates total project costs at Rs 100 crore. Construction on the first Rs 40 crore phase has begun.

A recent trustees’ meeting, attended by Mahajan, MPs Shankar Lalwani, Purushottam Pasari and Sudhir Dedge, finalised the powerpoint materials for the cabinet session. Senior trustee Vinod Agrawal was absent due to prior commitments. Immediately following the cabinet meeting, Trust members will officially present their proposal to the state leadership.
