Mumbai: A fake list claiming to contain the names of 81 district presidents of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has gone viral on social media, causing confusion among party members and the public. BJP Maharashtra Executive President Ravindra Chavan has clarified that the list is entirely false and urged party office-bearers and leaders to disregard it.
Chavan stated that the official list of BJP district presidents released recently includes only 58 names, not 81. He emphasized that the process of appointing district presidents in Maharashtra is still underway and that the viral list circulating on social media has no connection to the party. The BJP has warned that a police complaint will be filed against those responsible for spreading the misleading information.
Following the organizational restructuring efforts under the BJP’s Sangathan Parv campaign, the party has successfully registered around 1.5 lakh members in Maharashtra. Under the leadership of Ravindra Chavan, who was appointed as Executive President after the state assembly elections, the party has been strengthening its grassroots network ahead of the upcoming local self-government elections.
The official list of 58 district presidents was released under the guidance of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Maharashtra BJP President Chandrashekhar Bawankule. It includes names from key districts, including three posts for Mumbai: Deepak Tawde (North Mumbai), Deepak Dalvi (North East Mumbai), and Virendra Mhatre (North Central Mumbai).
Reacting to the fake list, Chavan stated that the list circulating with the title “BJP District Presidents 2025” is a deliberate attempt to mislead the public. He has advised the party’s workers and media to rely only on information issued through official channels. The party suspects that the list was created with malicious intent and has warned that legal action under cybercrime laws will be pursued against the perpetrators.
