Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A team of officers has been formed to investigate the ‘mock drill blast’ that occurred on May 15, in which two commandos of the state police’s elite Counter Terrorism Group (CTG) were injured during a controlled explosion, officials said on Saturday.

The commandos — Vishal Singh and Santosh Kumar — who are among the best-trained and most skilled anti-terror personnel in Madhya Pradesh police, sustained splinter injuries during a house intervention mock drill at a special police training facility in the city.

“A high-level inquiry has been instituted into the incident from the state police headquarters level, as both the commandos are part of the CTG,” said a senior police official.

He said that the team is probing several aspects, includingactual cause of the incident, authenticity of materials used, responsibility for the mishap and other technical and procedural lapses

The officer also said that further mock drills have been suspended temporarily, pending the findings of the high-level probe.

“Once the investigation is complete, preventive measures and a new SOP will be put in place to ensure such incidents do not happen in future,” the official said.
