India Defense Ministry: A historic increase of ₹ 50,000 crore in India’s defense budget is possible

News India Live, Digital Desk: The central government is planning to increase the defense spending by Rs 50,000 crore in view of the operation on Operation Sindoor and the western border. Top government sources gave this information to NDTV. With this, the total defense allocation of the country will be more than Rs 7 lakh crore for the first time.

The current defense budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in February has already been a record of Rs 6.81 lakh crore – which is 9.2 percent more than the previous year’s Rs 6.22 lakh crore. With the proposed increase, the defense expenditure will be about 13 percent of the budget.

Promotion of research and development

Additional funds will be used to promote research and development, purchase advanced weapons, ammunition and upgrade major military infrastructure. Approval for allocation during the upcoming winter session of Parliament is expected.

The development took place in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir after the terrorist attack on April 22 and India’s attack on the terrorist structure in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir. At least 26 people were killed in a shootout by terrorists in Basaron grounds in Pahalgam. The Razistance Force, a representative of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, has taken responsibility for this attack. In response, India ran Operation Sindoor.

Emphasis on self -sufficiency in defense manufacturing

Operation Sindoor has also attracted attention to the growing indigenous defense infrastructure of the country. Speaking after the operation, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh reiterated the government’s emphasis on self -sufficiency in defense building. He said, “If we buy defense equipment from other countries, it means that we are outsourcing it and leaving our safety in someone else’s hands. It cannot be a long -term solution.

There has been a rapid increase in defense expenditure at a time when India suspended the Indus Water Treaty, which was one of the major diplomatic reactions after the Pahalgam attack.
