News India Live, Digital Desk: Neeraj chopra: They did it! India’s Golden Boy showed it! Yes… Neeraj Chopra has finally touched the 90 meter mark, that long -standing elusive achievement that everyone wanted for years. As he says, “Late Aaye Aaye Aaye”, Neeraj was unaware of the heavy burden of expectations and was confident of his preparations that he would one day achieve this position and that moment came on Friday.
Starting a brilliant start of his 2025 season, the 27 -year -old player, participating in the Doha Diamond League, covered a distance of 90.23 meters in his third attempt in the final of the men’s javelin throw. This is the first time in his career that he has crossed the 90 -meter barrier, and this feat is no longer elusive for the double Olympic medalist.
Although the 90 -meter mark was unavoidable, seeing Neeraj’s confidence, strict preparations and determination on himself, as soon as he extended the spear from 90 meters at the Suhem bin Hamad Stadium, the entire crowd jumped with a lot of crowds and appreciated this boy from Haryana. He has given an example that true courage, determination and will power can take an athlete to which point and if someone believes then it is not difficult to achieve any place.
However, Neeraj finished second in the event, as he was beaten by Julian Weber of Germany, who came from behind to reach 91.06 meters in his last attempt, attempted from behind, which was the farthest throw among all the participants. Efforts of over 90 meters made Chopra the 25th person to cross the milestone in the history of men’s spear throw, while Weber became the 26th athlete in the world to achieve this feat.
Talking about his achievement in the Asian perspective, he has become the third Asian to reach this achievement with the pair of Arshad Nadeem and Chinese Taipei’s Chao-Tsun Cheng of Pakistan, making him the first Indian spear throw player.
sky is the limit!
Now that he has won the Diamond League title with the Gold Medal at the Olympic Gold, World Championship Gold, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, and has now crossed the elusive 90 meter mark, there is nothing else left to perform personal best for the golden child and contribute to the development of sports in India. It would be safe to say that Neeraj Chopra can do anything by moving forward, and the only boundary for him is the sky! Although he said many times that he has no problem that he has not yet achieved 90+ meters throw, but all these years seem to have an incomplete desire within him, since he has started achieving immense success globally. Most of his regular contestants such as Nadeem, Anderson Peters and Jacob Wades have already crossed the 90 -meter barrier, although the younger, but the only players who are left and talk with hope of doing so in the near future. During the Stockhom Diamond League in 2022, he missed a milestone from only 0.6 meters, and recorded a national record of 89.94 meters. Since then, he has only focused on improving, and hard work finally gave him fruits on Friday. His throw of 90.23 meters is the 24th best in the all -time list of the best throw in men’s javelin history. In the current scenario, no championship or record for Chopra is too large, and the only argument that is left is to break the world record. Well, it cannot be far away!
World record under Jaan Zelezney?
Those who do not know, tell them that Chopra is currently training from the Czech Republic’s ex -spear throw player Jaan Zelejani, who has a world record in men’s javelin throw competition. In 1996, Zelejony set a new standard by throwing a brilliant throw of 98.48 meters, which remains even after 29 years.
It is noteworthy that Chopra has recently worked with Zelezni, and this was his first major tournament. The world record holder proved to be great for Chopra as his third spear went beyond 90 meters, an achievement that he had a lot of desire. Given that if everything goes well then this cooperation will continue for a long time, Chopra can dream of touching new heights including leaving behind the world record of its coach.
Although it should not be a personal goal for Neeraj, but this is still the only goal left in his emerging career. His throw of 90.23 meters is now India’s national record.
