Australian speedster Mitchell Starc will not return for the remainder of IPL 2025 after deciding to withdraw from the tournament. The Delhi Capitals (DC) pacer had already left India last week after the tournament was temporarily suspended due to escalating tensions along the India-Pakistan border.
The IPL 2025 is just a day away and social media is buzzing with video of Australian pacer and an Indian fan trying to take a picture with him. In the video, Starc was confronted by an overenthusiastic fan who began recording a vlog as the cricketer was loading his luggage. Visibly annoyed by the invasion of privacy, Starc asked the fan to “go away,”
Starc had joined Delhi Capitals on a high-profile contract and was expected to be a game-changer for the franchise. However, with the league’s disruption and his focus now shifting to international duties, his IPL 2025 journey seems to have ended prematurely.
Starc has traditionally been hesitant to feature in the lucrative T20 competition, opting to prioritise his fitness for Australia and featuring in only four seasons since his first IPL in 2014. Starc’s wife and Australia captain Alyssa Healy, who also fled home from Dharamshala, described last week as “terrifying”.
What next for Delhi Capitals after Starc’s exit?
Delhi Capitals are currently fifth on the points table with six wins, four losses, and one no-result. Their previous match against Punjab Kings in Dharamsala was abruptly called off due to a technical failure during heightened security concerns. That fixture is now scheduled to be replayed in Jaipur on May 24.
With three games left, DC still have a realistic shot at making the playoffs but they’ll have to do it without the firepower of Mitchell Starc.
