Kalyan Police nab 3, seize over 1 kg ganja in anti-drug crackdown | Representational Image
Thane: The Kalyan police launched a special drive to crack down on drug activity in Kalyan and arrested three individuals, including a woman, in three separate cases where they were allegedly possessing and selling ganja in the Kalyan area and seizing over 1 kg. The accused have been identified as Pratham Gaikwad, Gopal Bhide, and Shahnaz Irani, all of whom are residents of Kalyan.
The concerned police said they received information about individuals allegedly possessing and selling ganja in the locality. Thereafter, a trap was set up by the police, and they apprehended the suspects in three separate cases. The three police stations, Kolsewadi, Khadakpada, and Bazarpeth, started their drive against drug selling in the locality.
Three FIRs have been lodged against them. Assistant Commissioner of Police Kalyanji Ghete said, “In Kalyan, we have started a special drive against drug activity under the instruction of DCP Atul Zende across Kalyan Dombivli. Based on a tip-off, our team from the three police stations apprehended the suspects on May 12 and confiscated over 1 kg of ganja from their possession.”
The police said that they were produced in court and remanded into police custody for further investigation into this matter. They were trying to find out from where the drugs came. Further investigation is ongoing.
