News India Live, Digital Desk: Nda vs upa: The NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done a better job than the UPA period in controlling retail inflation – especially in food and fuel. According to a post by BJP leader Amit Malviya on the X social media platform, “Inflation of double digits (more than 10 percent) seen during the UPA period is no longer a matter of concern, which reflects effective governance and value control in the last decade.”
Citing official figures, he said, “Retail inflation has not gone above 8 percent since 2014, while during the UPA 2004-14 it was an average of 8.1 percent, while it was 10.4 percent during 2009-14.” On the other hand, inflation during the UPA government during the period of January 2012 to April 2014 stood above 9 percent in 22 months out of 28 months, which reached nine times in double digits.
He said, “Overall, statistics suggest that in the tenure of the NDA government, especially in terms of food and fuel, inflation has been better controlled as compared to the UPA government.” The BJP -led NDA government has succeeded in controlling inflation by implementing concrete steps like PM Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana, under which more than 80 crore citizens are given free ration (extended to 2029), ‘India’ brands have been launched for retail sales of grains and pulses at cheaper rates through NAFED, NCCF and central reserves.
In addition, a dynamic buffer stock of pulses under the price stabilization fund is maintained and the stock is issued balanced with buffer stocks to ensure the availability and strength of pulses for consumers. The government is continuously unloading wheat and rice from the central pool under the open market sales scheme to increase availability in the market and control retail prices.
As far as fuel is concerned, the price of LPG subsidy and cylinder has been reduced, which will benefit both PM Ujjwala and regular consumers, a reduction of Rs 100 for 14.2 kg of cylinders in non-subsidized LPG prices, which will be effective from 9 March 2024.
