Virat Kohli Test Retirement: Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has expressed his opinion that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are unlikely to play in the 2027 ODI World Cup after retiring from Test cricket. Gavaskar, one of the great players of Indian cricket, said that resigning from T20 International and now Test cricket will have a major impact on his possibilities of playing in the ODI World Cup. Gavaskar told a channel, “No, I don’t think he (in the ODI World Cup).”

Honestly, I do not think he will play till then. However, there is a possibility that he will come into good form in the next one year and continue to score centuries continuously. If this happens, even God will not be able to remove them from the team. The pair of Rohit and Virat played a key role in winning the Champions Trophy for India. He is performing very well in this format of the game. Do we think he will be in the team for the 2027 World Cup? Will he be able to contribute for which he is known? The selection committee will have to think a lot about this.

If the selection committee feels that they will still contribute as much for the team as they are now, then these two players can retain their place. However, Gavaskar is not surprised by Kohli’s decision to retire. He said that both the players must have taken this decision only after talking to the selectors.

Bumrah should lead the Indian team

Everyone wanted these two players to retire from the game on their terms and it happened. Gavaskar credited the current Chairman of the Selection Committee Ajit Agarkar for handling the matter well for the good of Indian cricket. I never used too much to eat. So I do not know much about him. You want to see the team growing. You want to see the team moving fast. In such circumstances, sometimes you have to make difficult decisions based on sports needs. Gavaskar dismisses concerns about Bumrah’s injury and supported him to be India’s next Test captain. If Bumrah himself is the captain, then he will know when to take a break. They will be aware of the stress of their body and work.
