The Karmad area in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar was battered by unseasonal rains accompanied by hailstorms and strong winds on Monday, causing widespread disruption.

Hawkers at the weekly market in Karmad faced severe inconvenience as the downpour hit during peak hours. Fruit and vegetable vendors were thrown into chaos as their produce was washed away by the sudden rain. A video of a child gathering watermelons floating in the rainwater has gone viral on social media, highlighting the impact of the deluge.

The rain, which began around 12:30 pm, led to waterlogging across the entire market area within minutes. While the showers brought some relief to orchard farmers who had been grappling with intense heat and water scarcity, the timing and intensity of the rain caught many off guard.

Lightning strikes claim two lives in Marathwada

Meanwhile, two people lost their lives in lightning strikes triggered by the unseasonal rains in parts of Marathwada, an official from the revenue department confirmed on Monday.

The fatalities were reported from Beed and Latur districts on Sunday. The deceased were identified as Digambar Gaikwad (59) from Beed and Rahul Jadhav (22) from Latur. Additionally, incidents of livestock deaths were reported in Beed and Nanded districts, further compounding the losses suffered due to the unexpected weather.

Authorities are assessing the full extent of the damage as unseasonal weather continues to affect parts of the region.
