Bhopal: Hospitals Mark Rooftops With Red Crosses Amid Tensions With Pak; All Govt And Private Hospitals Told To Get The Symbol Painted | FPJ

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Hospitals are painting large red cross symbol on rooftops in Madhya Pradesh as a precautionary measure amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan following recent cross-border strikes.

In response to heightened Indo-Pak tensions and potentially imminent conflict, the Central government has directed the painting of a large red cross symbol on the rooftops of hospitals.

This symbol serves as a visual indicator of hospital locations to prevent accidental targeting during potential military actions, reports suggest. This directive is part of broader measures taken to ensure the protection of critical infrastructure during a potential military conflict.

CMHO Bhopal Dr Prabhakar Tiwari has directed all the government and private hospitals to get red cross mark painted on the rooftop of their buildings

Gajra Raja Medical College, Gwalior Dean informed Free Press, “ We have also marked rooftops. This was part of national safety guidelines issued by the central government. The red cross is a globally recognised symbol used to denote medical facilities and is protected under the Geneva Conventions, which prohibit attacks on hospitals during war or armed conflict. By marking their buildings, hospitals aim to safeguard themselves in the event of any aerial strikes.”

Whenever guidelines are issued with regard to national security—as is the case in the ongoing situation with Pakistan—all hospitals are marked with a red cross within a white circle, as per the Geneva Convention treaty. This ensures that hospitals are spared during attacks. “In line with this, we have also painted red crosses on our hospital roofs,” Dhakad said.
