News India Live, Digital Desk: IPL 2025 postponed: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 matches have been postponed indefinitely due to the ongoing stressful situation between India and Pakistan. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officially confirmed it on Friday. The board has not yet clarified when the remaining matches of the tournament will be played.
Decision taken after concern for foreign players
Many foreign players had expressed concern about their safety due to increased military tension between India and Pakistan in recent times. Keeping in mind the safety of the players and their interests, the BCCI decided to suspend IPL 2025 with immediate effect.
Blackout in Dharamshala, match stopped in the middle
Earlier, the match being played between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamshala on Thursday (8 May) was stopped in the middle due to security reasons. Players and spectators were evacuated to safe places after a sudden blackout during the match. At that time, Punjab Kings had 122 runs for 1 wicket in 10.1 overs.
57 matches have been played so far in the tournament
The IPL 2025 started from 22 March and its final match was to be held in Kolkata on 25 May. Till the postponement, 57 out of a total of 74 matches have been played. Currently, Gujarat Titans ranks first in the point table. At the same time, Royal Challengers Bangalore remains second, Punjab Kings third and Mumbai Indians in fifth place.
BCCI helped foreign players
The BCCI has announced that it will help all foreign players to reach their country safely. Meanwhile, Cricket Australia has also issued a statement regarding the safety of its players and coaching staff, stating that they are monitoring the situation and are in constant contact with their people present in India.
