Tensions along the India–Pakistan border have sparked uncertainty around the continuation of the Indian Premier League (IPL), with multiple foreign players expressing a desire to leave the tournament and return home. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to make a formal decision, instead adopting a cautious “wait and watch” approach as the situation develops.

According to news agency PTI, sources within the league have revealed several overseas players have formally raised concerns over their safety, urging franchises and league authorities to arrange early departures. The development occurred after Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals fixture was called off midway due to security alerts in surrounding areas.

The match at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium was halted with Punjab Kings at 122 for 1 after 10.1 overs. Initially believed to be a floodlight malfunction, the disruption was soon linked to air raid alerts in nearby towns. Heavy rainfall had already delayed the game’s start, and the subsequent blackout added to the confusion. In the interest of safety, both players and spectators were evacuated from the venue.

The match featured eight international players across both teams, with many more overseas personnel involved in support roles, broadcasting, and match officiating.

As of now, the BCCI has not announced any changes to the IPL schedule, but the growing number of exit requests from foreign participants may force a reconsideration in the days ahead.

Future of IPL 2025 amid tension between India and Pakistan

IPL chairman Arun Dhumal on Thursday said government directives are being awaited before deciding on whether to continue with the league amid the military clash with Pakistan but Friday’s match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru “is on as of now”.

“We are reviewing the situation right now. It is an evolving situation. We haven’t received any directive from the government. Obviously the decision will be taken keeping all the logistics in mind,” Dhumal told PTI.

Asked about Friday’s game in Lucknow, he said: “Yes it is on as of now but obviously it is an evolving situation and any decision will be taken keeping the best interest of all stakeholders in mind.”
