In the rush of daily life, people often neglect their health to save jobs. Along with proper diet, not getting enough sleep is also becoming a major cause of the disease. The Walkhart Hospital in Mumbai Central has conducted an online survey on how important sleep is for the body.

A survey has been conducted on the health of working Mumbaikars between 30 and 55 years of age. An online survey highlights the misconceptions about sleep patterns and sleep in the city. Dr., Consultant Neurologist, Walkhart Hospital, Mumbai Central. Supported by the insight of Prashant Makhija, this survey not only highlighted the problem of sleep deficiency, but also highlighted the increase in awareness about sleep health.

1. Most Mumbaikars are deprived of sleep
• 63.57% of the respondents say that they get less than 6 hours of sleep in the week of the week.
• It corresponds to global figures, indicating that citizens living in urban areas are facing sleep disruption due to work and travel.

In this regard, Dr. Prashant Makhija has discussed problems caused by insufficient sleep.
“The problem of lack of sleep in metros like Mumbai is increasing. People consider six hours of sleep inadequate, yet daily demands prevent them from getting enough sleep.”

Noise pollution – a major obstacle
• 64.23% of the people admitted that the noise from horn, construction and neighbors affects sleep. Makhija says that such urban noise disrupts circadian rhythm and REM sleep, causing serious consequences such as anxiety, high blood pressure and immunity.

3. ‘Full sleep in holidays’
• 59.62% people believe that they should get full sleep during the week. Giving Dr. Makhija guidance, it says that this is a common misconception. “Sleeping more during the holidays can provide temporary relief, but the negative effects of persistent sleep deficiency cannot be avoided.”

4. Drenched reality – sleep is still considered important
• 75.40% of people adopt habits to remain calm before sleeping, while only 24.60% of people spend time on social media.
• 55.74% of people do not give up sleep for late night meal or social events. This shows that Mumbaikar tries to maintain a habit of positive sleep despite diverting attention. ”

5. Snoring – An unseen danger
53.23% of people snore sleep. Although snoring is considered normal, it can also be a sign of a serious illness. Snoring is often symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Ignoring this increases the risk of serious diseases like heart disease and stroke.

6. Relationship between sleep and health – still unclear
• Only 52.66% of people accept the lack of sleep and the direct relationship between mental-physical health.
• About 47% of people are ignorant or uncertain about this relationship. This information is worrisome. Sleep does not just mean rest, but it is also necessary for brain health, hormonal balance and emotional control.

7. Stimulating Energy for Energy
• 44.89% of people depend on tea and coffee to be vigilant throughout the day. The rest work without any stimulating material – this is a balanced picture.

Conclusion: A city that knows the importance of sleep, but cannot sleep

This survey shows that people in Mumbai understand the importance of sleep, but it becomes difficult to sleep due to social, environmental and business obstacles. Two out of three Mumbaikars are suffering from lack of sleep, so there is a dire need for educational campaign on public health measures, noise pollution control and sleep.
