Narmadapuram (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh panchayat and rural development minister Prahlad Patel emphasized the vital role of Panchs and Sarpanchs in grassroots development, calling them the ‘Hanuman’ of governance.
Speaking at the Panch-Sarpanch Sammelan in Sohagpur tehsil, he urged local leaders to make their Panchayats self-reliant and well-equipped.
Minister Patel announced the increase of village development funds from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 25 lakh and Panchayat Bhawan grants from Rs 17 lakh to Rs 38 lakh.
He shared plans for building more three-storey Panchayat Bhawans and 1800 additional Atal Sevagram Sadans.
He encouraged Sarpanchs to focus on water conservation, proper use of government land, employment generation, and tree plantation under the Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan.
Praising exemplary leadership, he announced a Rs 3 crore grant for high-performing Panchayats and Rs 1 crore for others.
MP Darshan Singh Chaudhary highlighted the Panchayat’s role in implementing government schemes. Rajya Sabha MP Maya Narolia and MLA Vijaypal Singh commended the development push and advocated for shelter homes for Narmada Parikrama devotees.
Collector Sonia Meena provided updates on the Palak Mati river revival, including 169 water conservation projects and plantation drives across 427 identified sites. The Sammelan saw the distribution of housing approval letters and relief cheques under central schemes.
The event witnessed participation from several dignitaries, including senior officials, scientists, and public representatives.
