MP News: Wheat procurement broke records in Madhya Pradesh, expected to cross 85 million metric tonnes

News India Live, Digital Desk: Mp news: Government procurement of wheat in Madhya Pradesh this year is moving towards new records. The state government had targeted to buy 80 lakh metric tons (MT) wheat for the season, but now the purchase is likely to reach 85 lakh metric tons.

Increase in wheat procurement

Till Tuesday, the state government has purchased 76 lakh metric tonnes of wheat from about 8.76 lakh registered farmers. The procurement process will run till Wednesday. The campaign for wheat procurement in the state started on March 15, in which farmers were given a price of Rs 2,600 per quintal at 4,000 scheduled procurement centers.

Purchase doubled since last year

Last year, Madhya Pradesh government bought about 40 lakh metric tonnes of wheat from 5.85 lakh farmers. This year, this number has been almost doubled to 81 lakh metric tons, and the final figure is expected to reach 85 million metric tons.

Payment to farmers

The government has said that till now farmers have been paid about Rs 16,472 crore for their produce. For the convenience of farmers, the government had also provided online registration facility through SMS, web portal and mobile app. Besides, registration was also done through Kisan Suvidha Kendras in Tehsil Office, District Panchayat and Gram Panchayats.
