New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaking at the “ABP India 2047 Summit on Tuesday asserted that water belonging to India had been flowing into another country, now India’s water will flow in its interest and will be useful only for India, PM Modi said in his first reaction on India suspending the Indus waters treaty after the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 innocents dead.
A clip from PM Modi’s speech is going viral on social media. In the 23-second-long video PM Modi, can be heard saying,”Phele Bharat ke haq ka pani bhi bahar ja raha tha, ab Bharat ka pani Bharat ke haq mein bahega aur Bharat ke hi kaam ayega.” Which roughly translates to, “Earlier the water belonging to India used to flow outside, now India’s water will flow in its interest, it will stop in India’s interest and it will be useful only for India.”
Meanwhile, in the wake of suspending the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) with Pakistan, India has commenced significant hydroelectric activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
The National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) has undertaken ‘reservoir flushing,’ the removal of sediment buildup, at the Salal and Baglihar dams on the Chenab River. This maintenance, previously restricted under the IWT, aims to enhance power generation efficiency and prevent turbine damage.
