News India Live, Digital Desk: Kashmir Loc: After the Pahalgam terror attack, the tension between India and Pakistan is again at its peak. Pakistan is constantly threatening, although history is witness that Pakistan has never been successful in any war against India. Pakistan’s obsessive attitude towards Kashmir had come forward soon after independence. In this passion, Pakistan attacked India and during this time the Line of Control (LOC) came into existence. Let us know how the Indian Army taught Pakistan a lesson at that time.
The beginning of Kashmir dispute and the decision of Maharaja Hari Singh
The Jammu and Kashmir dispute began in 1947 with the partition of India-Pakistan. At that time Maharaja Hari Singh, the Hindu ruler of Jammu and Kashmir, decided to remain neutral. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Pakistan attacked Kashmir in October 1947 through its soldiers and tribal fighters in disguise as a tribal.
When the Indian Army changed the picture of the fight
As soon as Srinagar was in danger, Maharaja Hari Singh sought military help from India and signed the merger document on 26 October 1947. India reacted immediately and sent the army to Srinagar on 27 October 1947. Initially the Pakistan attackers had reached close to Srinagar, but the Indian Army soon controlled the situation. Pakistani troops were forced to withdraw and chased them from several areas.
Ceasefire and Line of Control (LOC)
When the Indian Army pushed Pakistan back, the matter reached the United Nations. After the United Nations intervention, the ceasefire took place on 1 January 1949 and became the Line of Control (LOC). LoC divided Jammu and Kashmir into two parts-one part remained under India’s control and the other went under Pakistan’s possession. Describing it as a temporary solution, the United Nations had spoken of referendum, but it has not been possible till date.
Difference between the administration of India and Pakistan
After the formation of the Line of Control, India maintained a democratic system in Jammu and Kashmir. At the same time, Pakistan did not make any attempt to establish democracy in its occupied Kashmir. Even today, the main reason for tension between the two countries is the Line of Control.
