What did Rahul Gandhi say?
On December 14 last year, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized Manusmriti in Parliament and mentioned Savarkar’s views. He gave a statement by holding a copy of the constitution in his right hand and Manusmriti in the left hand, and said, “Savarkar has clearly stated in his writing that the worst thing of the Indian Constitution is that there is nothing ‘Indian’ in it.”
Rahul Gandhi further said, “According to Savarkar, Manusmriti is the most revered religious text after the Vedas and is a guide for the Hindu nation. This code has been the basis of our culture, tradition, thoughts and behavior since ancient times. According to him, Manusmriti is the spiritual and divine journey of our nation in Manusmriti and Manusmriti is also considered law.” These statements created a big controversy in Parliament and the whole country. While Rahul Gandhi criticized Savarkar’s views and emphasized his faith in the constitution, some people described his statements against the basic principles of Hinduism.
