Former Indian opening batter Sunil Gavaskar made a strange comparison of Riyan Parag’s bowling to several types of pakodas on air during the IPL 2025 clash between the Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday at the Eden Gardens. While speaking to Alan Wilkins in the commentary box, Gavaskar said Parag’s bowling is like different types of pakodas avaialble in India.
The 75-year-old’s comment came keeping in mind how the Royals skipper picked up the crucial wicket of Ajinkya Rahane for a 24-ball 30 at a crucial juncture. With Rahane going for a sweep against a ball delivered on middle and off, all the right-hander managed was a toe end of the bat and Dhruv Jurel took a sharp catch behind the stumps.
On air, Gavaskar asked Wilkins:
“Have you ever eaten a plate of pakodas?”
With Wilkins saying yes, the 125-Test veteran said the following about Parag’s bowling.”
“Potato pakoda, capsicum pakoda, onion pakoda, a bit of everything, a mixed pakora. That’s a kind of bowling that he has.”
