Jabalpur Gangrape Accused Found Innocent; 22-Year-Old Bus Co-Passenger Booked For Assault | File Photo

Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): A significant development has emerged in the case of gangrape filed by a 15-year-old minor in MP’s Jabalpur on Sunday.

Police investigation has revealed that the individuals initially named in the FIR were not involved in the crime. As per the investigation, the actual incident, occurred in Mandla. It was committed by a 22-year-old stranger the minor met during a bus journey.

The minor had filed a complaint at Ghamapur Police Station, alleging that her social media friend Rajan and his associates had abducted and gangraped her over three days. 

However, during the investigation, her statements proved to be false on the basis of mobile location data, and call detail records (CDRs).

What was the actual matter?

According to police, the minor had left her home on Thursday around 9 pm after repeated arguments with her mother over using mobile phone and talking to Rajan on social media. 

The same night she boarded a bus to Raipur. During the journey she met Abhishek Thakur (22), a resident of Binjhiya, Mandla. 

Around 11 pm, Thakur got off the bus with the minor in Mandla and took her to the house of his friend, Hemant Vankshkar (35). Here, the minor was sexually assaulted.

The accused then put her on another bus to Raipur the next morning. However, the vehicle breakdown near Kawardha, after which the minor returned to Mandla and eventually went back home in Jabalpur. 

Three days after the incident, she reached home. Allegedly out of fear and pressure, she falsely named Rajan and his friends in the FIR.

The investigation revealed that Rajan had no involvement in the crime. The police also noted that the minor’s mother had earlier objected to her conversations with Rajan on Snapchat.

This might have influenced the initial allegations.

Two accused arrested

The prime accused have been arrested and identified as Abhishek Thakur (22), son of Ramashray Thakur, a resident of Binjhiya, Mandla. Hemant Vankshkar (35), son of Shankarlal Vankshkar, resident of Binjhiya, Mandla, has been arrested for supporting the accused in the crime.

Case registered with POCSO charges

The investigation team comprised Station In-charge Prasanna Sharma, Sub-Inspector Asha Mahore, and constables Ashwani Dwivedi, Santosh Jat, Shailendra Patwa, Balamukund, along with Cyber Cell head constable Amit Patel. The team cracked the case within 24 hours using technical evidence and sustained questioning.

Legal action is being taken against the accused under relevant sections of the BNS and POCSO Act.
