According to sources, MIL has canceled the long holidays of employees working in factories. Now for the next two months, employees will not be given a holiday of more than two days. Although senior officials are calling it a general process to meet the production target, experts are looking at it by linking it with the preparations for possible military action.
According to reports, the production target of April has not been met in the factories from Chandrapur to Jabalpur, due to which there is pressure to complete the work rapidly. Some factories also have to complete orders for export of weapons received from abroad on time. Employees’ holidays have been confirmed to be canceled in factories located in Jabalpur, Itarsi, Kolkata and Balangir, although no such order has been given at the factory in Bhandara.
A department of the Ministry of Defense has clarified that no official order has been given to cancel the holidays, but the public sector units (PSUs) have taken this step at the internal level. The chairman of the employees’ Union BPMS has also informed about the cancellation of the holidays, although he said that official information has not been received.
Pune-based MIL is India’s leading ammunition manufacturer, which produces Pinaka rocket launcher, tank ammunition, bombs, grenade and rifle tablets. The weapons used in the Balakot Aermarkot and Kargil war were also prepared in these factories. In view of the current situation, the holidays of more than 7000 employees under MIL have been stopped at the moment.
