The Government of India has now imposed a complete ban on the goods coming from Pakistan, which means that in any way there will be no goods from Pakistan and Pakistan will not go from India to Pakistan. The Ministry of Commerce said that now imports and exports from Pakistan have been banned.

Earlier direct trade was closed, now indirect trade is also closed. This is a major setback for Pakistan. India’s Ministry of Commerce is preparing a list of products that will not be imported or exported from India.

According to the notification of the Ministry of Commerce, India has banned direct or indirect imports from Pakistan with immediate effect. Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023 has added a provision in this regard. It states that with immediate effect, direct or indirect imports of all goods coming from Pakistan or there are being banned till further orders. This information has been given in the notification issued on 2 May.

Export-cost closed until further orders

The FTP provision stated that direct or indirect imports or transit of all the items generated in Pakistan or transit, whether they are independently imported or permission, will be restricted with immediate effect until further orders. This order of the Government of India has come at a time when Pakistan, which promoted terrorism, attacked a terrorist attack in Pahalgam from behind the scenes in which 26 people lost their lives.

For this, approval from the Government of India will be required.

The Directorate General of External Affairs (DGFT) said in a notification that the ban has been imposed in the interest of national security and public policy. Any exception in this ban will require the approval of the Government of India. This means that if an item is sent to Pakistan for business objective, it will need the approval of the Government of India.

What items were being sent to Pakistan from India?

Prior to the trade ban between the two countries, India exported mainly cotton, chemicals, food products, medicines and spices. Apart from this, items like tea, coffee, color, onion, tomatoes, iron, steel, sugar, salt and auto parts were also sent through third countries.

What was India coming from Pakistan?

Earlier products such as cement, gypsum, fruits, copper and salt were imported, but after 2019 the imports became almost zero. India’s import from Pakistan in 2024 was only $ 4.8 million. He ordered only essential items such as Indus salt and multani mitti. Now this will also be completely stopped.

Direct trade between India and Pakistan

Before the Pulwama attack, between 2008-2018, there was a trade of about Rs 7,500 crore across the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, giving revenue of Rs 66.4 crore in 1.7 lakh days. However, in 2019, India also shut down the route, as intelligence reports indicated illegal weapons, fake currency and drug trafficking.
