Pune: MLA Bapu Pathare Begins Hunger Strike Over Incomplete Lohegaon-Wagholi Road |
MLA Bapu Pathare of Vadgaon Sheri constituency has started a hunger strike to protest the years-long delay in completing an important road near Forest Park that connects Lohegaon to Wagholi.
A mere 300-meter stretch of the road remains unfinished, yet it continues to cause major inconvenience to thousands of daily commuters, including students, senior citizens, and even ambulances.
Despite repeated appeals and follow-ups with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), no action has been taken, prompting Pathare to take a firm stand.
From 10 AM today, Pathare, along with several local residents and party workers, began his protest by sitting near the incomplete stretch of road. In a social media post, he said, “For the past several years, this critical road near Forest Park has been left incomplete. Citizens are suffering every day. Despite repeated requests to the PMC, there has been no progress. As a representative of the people, I have decided to begin a hunger strike today until this issue is resolved.”
The incomplete road is a major connector between the rapidly growing Lohegaon and Kharadi areas. Its poor condition affects daily traffic and poses safety risks, especially for emergency services.
Pathare’s protest has received strong support from locals who have long voiced their frustrations over the issue. Many have gathered at the site, demanding swift action from authorities.
The MLA has vowed not to end his fast until the roadwork resumes and the stretch is completed.
