Defending champions Mumbai Police City Riders registered their fourth title win in the 10th Mitsui Shoji T20 Cricket League, organised by Jwala Sports Foundation and MCC at Mumbai Police Gymkhana. They beat star studded Shivaji Park Warriors by just four runs in the final on Wednesday night.
Mumbai Police team scored 221 for 6 in the allotted 20 overs and bowled out rival Shivaji Park Warriors for 217 in 19.5 overs. Their all rounder Aryaraj Nikam become the best player of the tournament.
When asked to bat first by Warriors, captain Sunil Patil (31) and Aryaraj Nikam put together 57 runs for Police team. Then Aryaraj in the company of Harsh Aghav (37) added another 73 runs for fourth wicket and 54 runs for sixth wicket with Rohit Pol (27*) to score 221/6 in 20 overs. Aryaraj hammered 80 in 50 balls with 12 fours and two sixes.
Mumbai pace duo Mohit Awasthi (1/50 in four overs) and Royston Dias (1/56 in 4 overs) proved very costly; but Sairaj Patil took 2/41 for Warriors.
While chasing this target, Shivaji Park Warriors scored 67/2 in first six overs but inform Suved Parkar (8) and captain Hatrdik Tamore (21) were out cheaply. Left hander Agni Chopra scored 58 in in 31 balls and impact player Siddhant Singh struck 52 in 21 balls to add quickfire 88 runs for the fifth wicket to raise the hopes for Warriors.
When Siddhant Singh departed, they required 39 runs in last five overs, which was achievable target. But captain Sunil Patil brought himself for bowling and send Atharva Ankolekar and Dev Patel in two balls without scoring. In his next over set Agni Chopra got out. In last over Warriors were needed 11 runs to win with their last pair was in. Kartik Mishra took six runs in first two balls ;but again Sunil Patil got the wicket on fifth ball to bowl out rival team for 217 runs in 19.5 overs.
Mumbai Police City Riders Aryaraj Nikam who scored 214 runs and took 13 wickets in this tournament was awarded with Best Player of the tournament as well as best bowler and best player of the final. Best batsman award went to Suved Parkar (344 runs with two centuries) and Hardik Tamore (eight dismissals) was the best fielder.
Mangesh Kudalkar along with MCA Joint Secretary Deepak Patil, MCA Senior Selection Committee Chairman Sanjay Patil, Jwala Sports Foundations Director Jwala Singh and Satyendra Singh gave away the prizes. Winners took a purse of Rs. 1 Lakh and trophy and runners-up were content with Rs. 50 thousand and a trophy.
