News India Live, Digital Desk: The US has started playing an active role to reduce the increasing tension between India and Pakistan after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday discussed separate phones with India’s Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
Rubio, in a conversation with Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar, expressed condolences to the 26 innocent civilians killed in the Pahalgam terror attack. He reiterated the US commitment to cooperate with India in the fight against terrorism. At the same time, he encouraged India to reduce tension with Pakistan and pursue efforts to ensure permanent peace and security in South Asia.
On the other hand, in a conversation with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Rubio expressed concern over the increasing tension in the region. Sharif repeated the old series of complaints against India during the conversation and claimed that Pakistan is suffering from terrorism. Sharif said that Pakistan has lost over 90,000 citizens in the fight against terrorism and has incurred a economic loss of $ 152 billion. He appealed to the US to pressurize India so that tension would not increase further.
In this conversation, Sharif also raised the issue of Indus Water Treaty, and described it as important for the lives of 24 million people. Sharif emphasized that no country can back down unilaterally with the treaty. He also demanded a fair inquiry into the matter, rejecting India of India’s Pahalgam attack.
On behalf of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given clear instructions in a meeting with top defense officials on Tuesday that the army is exempted from action after the Pahalgam terror attack. This aggressive strategy of India has increased concern in Pakistan that India can take strict military action.
