India shut down its airspace for Pakistan late last night, meaning that all Pakistani flights would not be able to fly in Indian airspace till May 23.

India has issued notice to the airmen for Pakistan. It states that if any flight enters Indian territory, action will be taken against it. Pakistan had decided to shut down its airspace for India on 23 April. The decision came after a high -level meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi. This meeting lasted for an hour.

Closing airspace will have a significant impact on Pakistan’s economy. Pakistan will have to take a long way to send its aircraft to countries like Thailand, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka etc. This will make air travel expensive there.

The Pakistani government believes that there may be a military attack by India in the near future. In such a situation, India’s decision to shut down its airspace is considered very important. Entry of all Pakistani aircraft into the Indian aircraft has been banned.
