Gandhari, the princess of Gandhara, was married to Rajkumar Dhritarashtra of Hastinapur. Because he was blind since birth. Therefore, after his wife, Gandhari vowed that she too would blindfold her eyes so that she could adopt her husband’s blindness. She decided that she would not see the world that her husband could not see. He closed his eyes from his wedding day. After this, there were two occasions in his life when he removed his eyes. What were those opportunities eventually? What was the result?

It is said about Gandhari that she used to understand what is going on in the minds of her around and people. Keeping in mind the qualities of Gandhari and the pride of the Kuru dynasty, Bhishma proposed this marriage, which was accepted by Gandhari’s father Subala. Gandhari wanted to live a life of equality with her husband by blindfolding. Meanwhile, it is also said that by doing so, Gandhari expressed his silent opposition to forcing a blind person to marry.

Everyone was surprised.

Meanwhile, the decision of Gandhari’s blindfold also reflects the strength of his character, renunciation and dedication to his duty as a wife. The mention of Gandhari’s blindfold is also found in Mahabharata. It is mentioned that he removed his straps at least twice. Both these moments were very special, and when they removed the bandage from their eyes, it was a moment that surprised everyone.

Gandhari became very angry.

There is a incident in the female festival of Mahabharata where Gandhari goes to Kurukshetra to meet her dead sons, especially Duryodhana, after the war. Some versions states that after this they removed their eyes. He saw his sons dead among the bodies lying in the battlefield. At this time, she was so angry inside that every person who came in front of her was destroyed by anger. So at that time Krishna told the Pandavas not to come in front of them.

How did Krishna control him?

When his strips were tied, the Pandavas came to meet him and Dhritarashtra with Krishna. Despite being blindfolded, Gandhari was burning from within. She was an ascetic. Gandhari’s penance also included restraint, patience and sacrifice. However, by using the divine vision received from his penance that day, he tried to curse the Pandavas. It is said that Krishna controlled that power of Gandhari.

Yudhishthira’s toe black

At that time Gandhari was able to see only Yudhishthira’s toe with a knot tied below her waist, and she turned black due to Gandhari’s heat. Then he got angry with Krishna due to Krishna and the Pandavas survived.

When did Gandhari first remove her bandage?

It is said in the Mahabharata that Gandhari had removed his eyes from his eyes for the first time before the Mahabharata war. Then he asked his son Duryodhana to come in front of him in a naked state.

Before the Kurukshetra war began, Gandhari was worried about his son Duryodhana and the unrighteous attitude of the Kauravas. She knew that the Pandava army was very powerful in war, especially under the guidance of Lord Krishna. With the power of maternal instinct and penance, Gandhari tried to make Duryodhana invincible in war.

Gandhari called Duryodhana to him. He asked him to come naked in front of him. The reason for this was that Gandhari wanted to make Duryodhana’s body rigid as a thunderbolt by using the divine power obtained from her penance. She had so much power in her eyes that she used to look at any part of the body, she would become invincible.

Duryodhana was ready to be naked to obey his mother’s command, but on the way Lord Krishna stopped him. Krishna explained to Duryodhana that being completely naked in front of his mother is unfair and shameful.
