The newly unveiled teaser of Pakistani drama Sher, starring Danish Taimoor and Sarah Khan, has landed in hot water, with viewers accusing the makers of plagiarising elements from the Bollywood blockbuster Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, which started Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh in the lead roles.
Released just days ago, the teaser of Sher sparked controversy on social media, with many fans and critics pointing out uncanny similarities to a key scene from the 2013 Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial, which featured Ranveer and Deepika’s characters as lovers from feuding families.
In the teaser of Sher, Danish appears onscreen brandishing a gun, only to be met by Sarah, dressed in a ghagra choli, also armed and unflinching. The scene, filled with dramatic tension and charged glances, has drawn direct comparisons to the moment in Ram Leela where the two lead characters aim guns at each other during their confrontation.
The comparisons have triggered a wave of debate on social media, with some calling the visual resemblance ‘cheap’ and ‘too close for comfort’.
“Oh my god! So embarrassing… They are trying to pull out a Pakistani Ramleela with Danish?? Lmao jis k na expressions hote na acting. Tauba hai,” a user wrote on X.
“Second hand embarrassment bro pls,” wrote another user. A third user shared the teaser of the upcoming drama and asked, “What in the name of sastay ram leela is this?”

The makers of Sher is yet to issue a statement addressing the allegations. The actors have also not reacted to the controversy yet.
Bhansali’s Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela is a modern Indian adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Set in a fictional town plagued by a violent feud between two rival clans, the Rajadis and Saneras, the film follows the passionate love story of Ram (Ranveer) and Leela (Deepika), who belong to opposing families.
Despite deep-rooted hatred between their communities, the two fall madly in love and attempt to escape the cycle of violence. However, betrayal, family loyalty, and tragic misunderstandings lead to devastating consequences, ultimately ending in a heartbreaking sacrifice for love.
The film hit the big screens in India in November 2013. It also starred Richa Chadda, Supriya Pathak, Gulshan Devaiah, Sharad Kelkar, Raza Murad and others.
