Currency Crisis in Bangladesh: 15,000 million Taka notes wereted due to government’s decision

News India Live, Digital Desk: After the coup of Sheikh Hasina government in Bangladesh, the situation still remains unstable. Currently, the country is facing a huge currency crisis with an interim government led by Mohammad Yunus. The government has suddenly refused to release the earlier notes in the market, causing tremendous financial loss to the central bank of Bangladesh. Due to this step, about 15,000 million taka price notes have become useless, on which the picture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been printed.

Officials, on the condition of anonymity, said that the old tradition of taking new notes from the Central Bank has caused a crisis in the market. On the one hand, while printed currency is being ruined without being used, on the other hand the general public is forced to use torn and old notes. These notes are made of paper and ink purchased from the tax of the general public, which are now deteriorating in the cellars of banks.

The Bangladesh Security Printing Corporation does not have enough capacity to cancel all old notes simultaneously and issue new notes. Former bank officer Ziauddin Ahmed has said that with the release of new design notes in the market, old notes should be withdrawn in a phased manner. Generally, notes printed once can be used for four to five years.

According to local media reports, Bangladesh bank is unable to meet banks. This problem has become serious since the political change in August. Bangladesh Bank has stopped issuing new notes since April, due to which only old, torn and dirty notes are left in the market, due to which dissatisfaction is increasing among the people.

According to sources, the Security Printing Corporation may start printing new notes from next month. In the first phase, new notes of 20, 50 and 1,000 taka will be printed and then they will be gradually released in the market.
