The accused in Bopdev Ghat gang rape case, Bapya alias Somnath alias Suraj Dashrath Gosavi alias Yadav was produced before the Honorable Court and has been remanded in police custody for 5 days, until May 2, on Sunday.

After over six months since the rape took place, the Pune police on Saturday announced the arrest of the third and final accused in the Bopdev Ghat gangrape case.

Two accused in the case have been arrested, and a coordinated manhunt was underway for the third aide.

He has been booked under Sections 70(1), 126 (2), 115 (2), 309 (6), 352, 351 (2) 351 (3) of the Indian Penal Code 2023, Sections 4, 25 of the Arms Act, Section 37 (1) 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act 1951.

Two accused were held earlier

The two accused arrested in the case were identified as Chandrakumar Raviprasad Kanojiya, a native of Madhya Pradesh, and Akhtar Babu Shaikh, hailing from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh.

For the uninitiated, a woman was allegedly raped by three men on the night of October 3 in the Bopdev Ghat area on the outskirts of Maharashtra’s Pune city during an outing with a male friend. The assailants beat up her friend too.

Superintendent of Police (Pune Rural) Pankaj Deshmukh, on Saturday, confirmed that Gosavi was arrested at the Akluj bus stand in Solapur district with the help of Walchandnagar police.
