Navi Mumbai: Turbhe MIDC police have arrested a 17-year-old boy for allegedly killing a 12-year-old girl after she refused his sexual advances. The incident took place in the Shiravane MIDC area where both the accused and the victim resided.
The incident came into light on Friday night when the family of the girl were looking for her in the nearby vicinity. The parents work in the hospitality department of a hospital in Nerul and while they were away for work, the victim girl had stepped out of the house on Friday afternoon.
In the evening when the parents were back home from work, her elder sister informed the parents that she had not reached home. The parents then approached Turbhe MIDC police and registered a kidnapping case. As per the supreme court guidelines, in the event of a minor’s missing, a kidnapping case is to be registered.
The family while looking for the girl, found her body in the forest area which was around 100 metre away from her house. “The nearby kids often roam around in the bushy area of MIDC. The girl too would have gone to roam around,” senior police inspector Abasaheb Patil from Turbhe MIDC police station said. After the body was found, a team of crime branch and a team from Turbhe MIDC police station had started the investigations.
“During the investigation, we learnt that after the girl went missing, a boy from the same area went to her house to give the mobile phone belonging to the girl. He told that he found the phone from the road. Our suspicions deepened when the further technical analysis of the mobile phone and review of CCTV footage revealed inconsistencies in his statement. Upon sustained interrogation, the boy confessed to killing the girl by striking her twice on the head with stones,” Patil added.
He told the police that when he met the girl in the forest, he made advances to the girl which she refused which irked him and he killed her by hitting a stone on her head. He had used two stones and both were recovered from the spot.
“We are awaiting post mortem reports to ascertain if the deceased was sexually abused by the accused,” the officer added. The boy has been booked for murder and kidnapping and will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.
