Toddy Shop Dispute Claims Life Of 60-Year-Old In Pune’s Wanawadi | Representational Image
A 60-year-old senior citizen died during treatment after being brutally injured in an attack by two drunkards at a toddy shop in Shantinagar, Wanawadi, around 4.30pm on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Malang Mehboob Qureshi, a resident of Shivneri, Kondhwa.
The accused have been identified as Adil Shaikh (31) and Panda alias Pandurang Namdev Pawar (50).
According to the police, on Friday, Malang Qureshi went to the toddy shop in the Shantinagar area. While drinking, a dispute arose between them over a minor reason. Later, the argument turned violent, leading to serious injuries to Qureshi.
The accused Shaikh and Panda beat Qureshi brutally at the shop. They pushed the victim into the iron gate of the shop, leading to serious injuries on his head.
After that, Qureshi went home by rickshaw. He was taken to the hospital, but died during the treatment. Accordingly, his son, Sohail Qureshi, filed a case at Wanawadi Police Station.
Satyajeet Admane (Senior Police Inspector) of Wanawadi Police Station, speaking to The Free Press Journal, said, “Acting on the complaint, we started an investigation. They are all residents of the same locality in Kondhwa and had gone to drink toddy, where a dispute arose between them. The argument turned violent, and Qureshi was seriously injured.”
“We have arrested both the accused, and the matter is under investigation. Regarding the incident, a case has been registered under Sections 103(1), 115(2), and other relevant sections of the BNS at Wanawadi Police Station,” he added.
