After the fierce terrorist attack in Pahalgam, a total of 191 Pakistani citizens returned to their country from the Attari-Wagah border in Amritsar, Punjab, as soon as the 48-hour time limit for Pakistani citizens ended by the Government of India. With this, 287 Indian citizens who went to Pakistan also returned home. However, during this period, some Indian passport holders were faced with difficulties in crossing the border, who are married in Pakistan.
After the terrorist attack, the Government of India took several major decisions in a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security Affairs (CCS) due to increasing tension between the two countries. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri made it clear that Pakistani citizens would not be allowed to come to India under the SAARC Visa Rebate Scheme and the previously existing Pakistani citizens were given 48 hours to leave the country immediately.
Attari check post closed
In the CCS meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it was also decided that the integrated investigation outpost at Attari would be closed with immediate effect. It was also announced that Indian citizens who are present with legitimate documents in Pakistan can return by this route by 1 May.
Pakistani citizens canceled visas
From April 27, the central government had announced the cancellation of visas of all Pakistani citizens and not giving new visas. The government also advised Indians living in Pakistan to return home as soon as possible. Following this instruction on Friday, a huge crowd of people returning to Pakistan was seen on the Attari-Wagha border.
Problems of women in crossing border
Meanwhile, some women holding Indian passport holders, who are married in Pakistan, faced difficulties in crossing the border. These women alleged that despite all the necessary documents being together, they are being stopped on the border.
A woman resident of Karachi, who came to meet her mother in Delhi, said, “My husband and father -in -law are waiting across the border, but I am not getting permission to cross the border.”
Another woman said, “I have an Indian passport, but my two children have a Pakistani passport. We showed all the necessary documents, but we are not listening to. They are saying that Indian passport holders will not allow the holders to cross the border.”
Aruda Imran, who hails from Rajasthan, who was married in Pakistan 20 years ago, also said, “My daughters are Pakistani citizens. I have all the necessary documents, yet I am being stopped.”
Expressing displeasure, another woman Afsheen Jahangir said, “I want to go back to my house. If permission is not found then I will eat poison here. I have a visa, yet I am being stopped.”
However, it was finally allowed by the authorities on the border that Pakistani passport holder children, whose relatives were waiting for them, could return to Pakistan, but Indian passport holders women have not been allowed to return to the time.
