The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has strongly condemned the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. In an official statement released in the media on Friday, the UNSC emphasized the need to bring the culprits of this brutal act and their helpers into the dock of justice. The Security Council clarified that terrorism in any form is one of the most serious threats for international peace and security.
Condemned in strict words of attack
Members of the UNSC sharply criticized the terrorist attack on 22 April, in which at least 26 innocent people lost their lives and many were injured. This official statement was issued by the Chairman of the Council on behalf of all 15 member countries. Currently Pakistan is also present as a temporary member in the UNSC.
The Security Council expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased and sympathy for the governments of India and Nepal. The injured were also wished for early recovery. Also, UNSC stressed the need to justify the culprits and their supporters of this attack as soon as possible.
Call for global cooperation
UNSC urged all countries to actively cooperate in this direction under the relevant proposals of the International Law and Security Council. The council reiterated that global solidarity and effective action is very important to deal with terrorism.
Valley’s deadliest attack
Significantly, on Tuesday, 26 people were brutally murdered by terrorists in Pahalgam region of Jammu and Kashmir, most of which were tourists. The attack is considered to be the biggest terrorist attack in the Kashmir Valley after the 2019 Pulwama attack. The banned terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba’s shadow organization ‘The Resistance Front’ (TRF) has claimed responsibility for the attack.
According to the initial sketch issued by the security agencies, the attack included three terrorists, who have been identified as associated with Pakistan.
