Snatchers Striking At Will, 35 Cases In Last Three Months In Bhopal | Representative Image

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): An elderly man Sudarshan Sharma was out for a morning walk at Bhawani Nagar in Piplani on April 20 and was returning home while talking to someone on phone when three miscreants on a bike came from behind and snatched his handset.

Jamaluddin had come to Bhopal was waiting for a bus at ISBT bus stand at Govindpura on April 18 when bike-borne youths snatched his phone.

Similar mobile phone snatchings took place with Faruq and Nanhelal Chaudhary at Habibganj and MP Nagar areas respectively during the past one week. In three of the cases, three bile-borne youths committed the crime.

There have been a series of incidents of mobile snatchings in the city during the past few weeks indicating that looters and snatchers are striking at will in the city despite heavy checking drives conducted by cops every evening.

A surge in mobile phone snatching cases has left the residents on edge. The snatchers usually target people who are on foot and are talking on the phone. These miscreants strike not only in market areas but target people at bus stands, residential colonies, roads and streets.

As per records, in the past three months, around 35 cases of loots and snatchings – which mostly included cases of mobile snatchings – by bike-borne miscreants have been reported in the city.

Besides mobile snatchings, the cases registered include chain snatchings and other cases of loot. However, there are over 25 cases of mobile snatchings registered alone. Two cases of attempt to bank loot and four cases of attempt of chain and mobile snatchings have also been registered in police records.

Checking drive underway

Police officials said that although there have been cases of mobile snatchings, around equal number of miscreants and snatchers have also been arrested and sent behind the bars. Cops have launched checking drives to identify and trace the culprits involved in such incidents, officials added.
