The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a major decision to modernize the road network of the capital Lucknow and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency Varanasi. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state government has approved the plan to construct more than 100 new roads in both these major cities.
Construction work will start in 2025-26
This work will be started in the year 2025-26 under the Rapid Economic Development Scheme. The purpose of the scheme is to remove problems like traffic jams, waterlogging and poor connectivity in both cities.
For this project, a letter has been sent to the District Magistrates of Lucknow and Varanasi, giving the responsibility of implementation of the scheme. The construction works will be completed under the supervision of the Rural Engineering Department.
Drains and interlocking construction along with roads
Under the scheme, CC Road, roads with interlocking tiles and strong drains will be constructed.
New technology and better drainage system are being given priority in this scheme, so that the problem of waterlogging can be dealt with during monsoon and heavy rains.
Where will these roads be built?

A total of 77 new roads will be constructed in Varanasi.
For this, areas like Pindra, Narayanpur, Sarnath, Sarsauli ward have been included. -
25 new roads will be built in Lucknow.
These include Bakshi’s pond, Malihabad and Sarojninagar major areas.
The project will be started after all necessary environmental and legal approvals.
Local development will get a boost
The government believes that this scheme will provide relief from better contact, clean environment and traffic jam. It will also strengthen the local economy and infrastructure.
The construction works are targeted to be completed with timely and quality. For this, the necessary financial resources are also being arranged under this scheme.
