8th Central Pay Commission: Employees and pensioners will get long wait

Recently, the Central Government announced the DA/Dr Hike for its employees and pensioners, after which the wait for these employees and pensioners has increased further for the introduction of the new pay commission. However, experts believe that employees and pensioners may have to wait long to increase salary and pension, as it may take a long time to implement the 8th Pay Commission (8th CPC).

Why is it getting delayed?

According to sources, it may take another year to prepare the 8th Pay Commission report, and only then it can be implemented. Currently there is a discussion that the new Pay Commission may come into force from 1 January 2026, but the report may take more than a year to reach the government. In such a situation, it is likely that it can be implemented in 2027 instead of 2026. Although the central government has not yet made any official announcement on this, it is believed that the new Pay Commission may be implemented soon.

The issue raised in Parliament also

The issue was also raised in Parliament recently. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while answering a question in March, said that efforts are being made to prepare the conditions of the 8th Pay Commission (Tor) and the report as soon as possible. After its formation, however, it may take some time to apply.

Employees will get arrears

The recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission came into force from 1 January 2016. The government formulates a new pay commission every decade, and hence the 8th Pay Commission was expected to be implemented from 1 January 2026. However, it is now being delayed. Whenever the new Pay Commission will be implemented, it will be effective from 1 January 2026, and under this, employees will also get arrears. However, the government has not made any official announcement on this.
