Traffic News: Gas Leaks As Chemical Tanker Collides With Car At Ajanari, Causing Congestion On Mumbai-Goa Highway | Loksatta
Mumbai: A chemical tanker overturned after colliding with a Tata Punch car at Anjanari, leading to traffic disruptions on the Mumbai-Goa highway. The incident, which took place late on Tuesday night, resulted in a gas leak that created an unpleasant odor and caused traffic delays along the highway.
The tanker, which was transporting chemicals from Mumbai to Kankavli, lost control and struck an oncoming Tata Punch car. This collision that occurred late on Tuesday night caused a gas leak on the road, resulting in an unpleasant smell and disrupting traffic on the Mumbai-Goa highway for a while.
As per report by Loksatta, a 22-year-old lawyer Ghulam Ahmed, a resident of Dhadarpur, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, was driving the tanker (MH 43 Y 3417) loaded with LDO chemical. When the tanker approached the Lanja Anjanari bridge, the driver lost control going down the slope. The tanker collided with a Tata Punch car (MH 47 BT 0124) heading from Lanja to Ratnagiri, leading to its overturning. The Tata Punch was driven by 47-year-old Nilesh Prakash Vilanankar, a resident of Khadpe Wathar, Ratnagiri.
Following the accident, a considerable amount of chemicals leaked from the tanker onto the Mumbai-Goa highway, producing a foul odor. However, the Lanja police arrived at the scene and, with assistance from a crane, managed to move the tanker aside, allowing traffic to resume. The tanker driver, who sustained injuries in the incident, was taken to Pali Rural Hospital for medical treatment.
